Vehicle Engineering(080204)

 1. Brief Introduction

This discipline was authorized to award professional master degree in 1990. It was confirmed as key discipline of Shanghai Education Committee in 1996. It was approved to award Vehicle Engineer doctoral degree in 1998. In 1999 it was set as a part of mechanical engineering Postdoctoral mobile research station, and it was evaluated as key discipline of Shanghai in 2000. It was evaluated especially as key discipline of Chinese Ministry of Education in 2007. In recent years, we have introduced and educated a group of excellent graduate mentors.

In the railway vehicle area, our institute has established the very first platform of comprehensive experiment for urban rail transits which can achieve the certain requirements for a series of experimental research concerning railway vehicle operating. Our institute, meanwhile, has taken in charge of a plenty of projects including national research projects, the National Natural Science Foundation and provincial scientific research projects. With these research backgrounds, we have won one of the National Science and Technology Progress Award and a number of the provincial science and technology awards, national new products and patents etc., which have made our institute have its influence both domestic and abroad. In addition, our institute obtains a wide range of international communication and has made many agreements with different foreign universities and our institute holds international academic lectures and seminars regularly as well.

The key fields of our discipline cover vehicle dynamics and controlling, structural strength, breaking system, fault detection technology and high-speed maglev vehicle technology.

5. Maglev vehicle technology including: maglev vehicle vibration and controlling technology, maglev vehicle structural lightweight technology, maglev vehicle traction and power supply technology.



Vehicle Operation Engineering(082304)

 1.Brief Introduction

Vehicle Operation Engineering major in the research of rail transit vehicles, railway track and other means of delivery system as well as the theory & engineering technology of their structural performance, operational control & security, detection & diagnosis, and manufacturing engineering. Vehicle Operation Engineering belongs to the discipline of transportation engineering.

In the twenty-first century, our country is developing the transportation system further into a comprehensive network with obvious advantages, especially on security, speed, comfort and low cost. The scientific application and management of transport facility are very important to insure the security, low cost and efficiency of transportation. They are also the foundation to improve the advancement and the innovation of the transport facility technology.This discipline relates with some subjects such as mechanical engineering, material science & engineering, electronic technology, computer science, control engineering, vehicle engineering, electrical engineering etc, and also concerning the high technologies such as modern information technology, microelectronics technology, computer technology and synthetic integration technology. This discipline permeates mutually with the subjects mentioned above, keeping pace with the development of highway and railway engineering, traffic information engineering & control, transportation planning & management etc. This discipline produces some new crossing subjects and new research directions.

This discipline’s main research objects are railway locomotive/vehicle, Track structure and operation of control systems, which makes the optimization of the operation of railway vehicle, safety and environmental friendliness as representative research subjects. Adopting the latest research results of vehicle engineering, railway track, dynamics microelectronics and information processing technology, the key research areas are vehicle dynamics, modern track structure, train control, electric traction and control technology, detection and fault diagnosis technology, vehicle safety technology as well as vibration & noise control technology.

The research group includes postgraduate student supervisors and young teachers with doctoral degree. In the last few years, we have taken important research projects such as sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and support program project supported by Ministry of Science and Technology, 863 project and province levels.

Transportation Engineering(086100)

 1.Brief Introduction

Transportation Engineering is a discipline that study on the movement of people and goods within a specific time and in a specific space as well as the theory and methodology of layout, construction and maintenance of transportation infrastructure, vehicle operation and safety, transportation information and control, and transportation operation and management, etc., on which the movement was based. The discipline covers five 2nd-level sub-disciplines which are Transportation infrastructure engineering, transportation planning and management, traffic information engineering and control, vehicle utilization engineering, traffic safety and environment.

The long history of transportation engineering at Tongji University was originate in 1914. During the 1950s, the relative disciplines from Tsinghua University, Zhejiang University, Zhendan University, and Shanghai Jiaotong Universitiy were transferred into Tongji University, along with a group of leading scholars with strong background in both Chinese and overseas systems. In 1952, Tongji University established the nation’s first “Department of Railway and Highway” as well as the “Ministry of Transportation Shanghai Road Engineering Research Institute”. After China’s reform and opening up, the discipline introduced the experiences from the US and European Universities and started exploring the ways of transforming into comprehensive and interdisciplinary programs. As a result, Tongji established the first Traffic Engineering Research Laboratory in China and the mode of high-level personnel training for transportation engineering has been established.

The discipline started its graduate program in 1955 and its doctorate program in pavement and airport engineering in 1986, the first one in China. Post-doctoral research mobile stations of railway, highway, and water transportation were established in 1990. The doctoral program in traffic engineering started in 1996 and first-class doctoral program of Traffic and Transportation Engineering in 1998. The discipline entered the construction project of “211 Projects” key disciplines (in 1998)、“985 Projects”key disciplinesin 2004)、the first batch of key national disciplines (in 2007)Shanghai Peak Discipline (in 2015) and world-class universities and first-rate disciplines (in 2017).

The discipline has the National Collaborative Innovation Center, the National Engineering Technology Research Center, the Key Laboratory of Ministry of Education, the Key Laboratory of Civil Aviation Administration of China, the Key Laboratory of Shanghai City, the Engineering Technology Research Center of Ministry of Education, the Collaborative Innovation Platform of Ministry of Transport, the Engineering Technology Research Center of Shanghai City, Sino-German Electric Vehicle Technology Joint Research Center, Sino-Swiss Road Traffic Safety Research Center, "111" Innovation and Talent Recruitment Base, Innovation Talent Training Base of Ministry of Transport. International leading equipment includes 8-degree-of-freedom driving simulator, accelerated pavement loading system, maglev rail test line, etc. All of these strongly support this discipline.

There are more than 180 graduate tutors and a number of enterprise part-time tutors. There are a group of academicians, outstanding young people, outstanding talents of the Ministry of education in the new century, leading talents of Shanghai, young scientific and technological talents of the Ministry of transport and many international famous experts in this field. A young and vigorous academic team with clear research direction and knowledge structure has been formed, which also has a reasonable and full understanding of the international frontier research work, has the courage to tackle and innovate in science and technology, and provides a guarantee for the cultivation of interdisciplinary talents.
